Play with who you want, when you want, at whatever power level you want! We've tried for years to get folks on the same level when playing with others. We consistently have the same issues. Power is subjective and players struggle to adequately communicate their deck power in rule zero conversations. Magic is the most fun when everyone has similar expectations for the match. However, it has become increasingly clear that some folks will push decks to the limit when things are competitive, causing other to fall behind.
Then we had a thought. "What if players were not competing against each other, but against other pods?"
How would that work? We're not 100% sure, but we're going to try! Here's the rule breakdown for Team League!
* Players will join a team and earn credits for their team.
* Each team will have it’s own leaderboard and then there will be a leaderboard comparing teams to one another.
* Players can earn achievements. Each achievement can be earned by each team only once. In order to earn an achievement, you must call over a Tournament Organizer to validate your action.
* Teams can have a total of 6 members on them
* Teams must be formed on our Discord. Your team will receive it’s own forum to communicate on. All members should be in the Discord channel, but a minimum of 1 member must be in the discord as the Team Captain.
The Team Captain has two roles:
1) Manage the personnel of the team, which includes new team member onboarding and, if necessary, team member removal based on a majority vote by all members of the team. In the event of a tie, the Team Captain’s vote breaks the tie.
2) Act as the primary point-of-contact for your team to Tournament Organizers if issues arise.
Teams can earn credits for the following actions:
* 1 credit for each unique Commander game played (max 3 points per day)
* 1 credit per player for each team member who shows up to a league day (max 6 points per day)
* 1 credit for each achievement earned (max 3 points per day)
* 2 credits for playing in a Commander 2-Headed Giant match against two members of a rival team (max 2 points per day)
* 2 credits for winning a Commander 2-Headed Giant game against two members of a rival team (max 2 points per day)
Team League is based on trust & integrity. The following actions can lead to your immediate disqualification from the League and barred entry from any future events hosted by Current:
A) You are dishonest about games and/or actions that lead to credit(s) being acquired for your team.
B) You become aware of deceit happening in your team and do not report it immediately.
Teams will only play with members of their own team, with the exception of 2-Headed Giant matches.
* Two-Headed Giant matches are Commander format. See official rules for Two-Headed Giant Commander here: https://magic.wizards.com/en/formats/two-headed-giant
- Entry is $10 per player, per day.
- Teams will earn 1.5x their daily league participation in booster packs for same-day prizing.
- Teams can redeem their credits for sealed boxes of MTG predetermined by us. Boxes will have a minimum requirement of 33 credits for redemption.
We know this seems like a lot of info, but if you're just looking for the TL;DR version, it goes like this:
* Join a team of players, play matches with them, and earn credits for doing it. Earn booster prizing for same day payoff and accrue credits until you have enough to redeem them for MTG boxes!
We hope you'll give this a chance and try it out! It is a big swing, but we really think it could work! Play on Thursdays or Sundays! See ya soon!
