The old version of Juleo and Romiet (Last Laugh) received the ''2022 Anywhere Festival Show Award Overall''. The professional reviewer, Catherine Lawrence, described “I can certainly recommend it as a thought-provoking work showcasing two talented actors!”
The new play has a lighter and denser body than in the past. The innovation of music and lighting effects makes the style take on a new look.
Two actors exchanged their roles, re-deconstruction and shaping characters. They believe, in adhering to the principle of excellence, long-term cultivation of tacit understanding, and strive to collision more brilliant spark.
The story is adapted from a story by Japanese dramatist Kōki Mitani which began as a play in 1996. It tells the story of seven encounters in seven days between a playwright of a comedy troupe, and a comic-averse censor who has just returned from a deployment to the second war.
Referred to by The British Times as “the most advanced comedy in the world today”, 'Juleo and Romiet' pushes the boundaries of contemporary theatre, articulating a uniquely eastern expression that resembles the themes and structure of 'Romeo and Juliet'.
