Come enjoy our Viking as he shares stories of Yule celebration and some hot ciderAbout this Event
Come celebrate a Viking Jól (Yule) with us!
The Norse people celebrated a midwinter feast which is now called Jul in Scandinavia and Yule in other countries. We’ll learn how the old Scandinavians celebrated during this solstice festival to celebrate the rebirth of the sun. Rediscover ancient practices, fom what they did, drank, and ate, to traditions like Julbucking, the Yule log, the Yule goat, and the Yule Tree (the precursor to our Christmas tree today!). Matt will cover how these traditions continued being celebrated from Medieval times to today. To make it extra fun, Matt will be dressed in traditional Viking garb.
No need to formally register for this event, it is free to attend!
Matt is the Executive Director of History Live! Northeast and has over 25 years of experience as a re-enactor, medievalist, and theater performer, who loves to share his love of history with others. For more information go to: History Live North East.
