26 Years Exhibition
26 Years is a multimedia exploration of human perception and the environment. Cognition has inherent limitations. How, then, do we interpret and understand climate (described by theorist Timothy Morton as a "hyperobject") or climate change (dubbed by Rittel and Webber a "wicked problem")?
26 Years is a type of time capsule, both a document of modern America that will be shared with posterity, as well as an invitation for those here and now to engage with possible futures. There will be additional configurations and installations of 26 Years between now and 2050.
Its focal point is a series of portraits and interviews about climate change with people in the rural townships around Kalamazoo County. Accompanying additional works can be regarded as experiments in perspective: video, audio, collage and stereoscopic works that all investigate the ways in which we imagine the world around us.
Support provided by the Arts Fund of Kalamazoo County, a program of the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo.
