Are you keen to give rowing a go or rowed in the past and want to get back out on the water, then this 90min session is the perfect pathway before you launch into either our beginner Learn to Row program in the new year or how to join up as an experienced rower.
The session includes:
- Coaching on the correct technique on stationary rowing machines (ergs).
- Correct oar handling for sculling (two oars)
- How to get in and out of a boat safely (water entry)
- On water session to help translate your technique into a boat.
On water sessions will be quads and/or doubles, and if you show a natural ability then we have some very stable singles! A coaching boat will be out on the water, with JRC coaches and members assisting. Weather may affect the day, but we will monitor conditions and adjust as required for safety.
Requirements :
Participants must be able to complete a 100m swim test if requested. Minimum age required for this session 14 years old with parents’ consent.
What to wear & bring :
Tops:
Clothing should be form-fitting and not baggy as loose clothing gets caught in the oars. Tight fitting rash vests and running tops are fine.
Bottoms:
Shorts or leggings should be tight fitting. Long/loose shorts/jogging bottoms cannot be worn in the boat. Please note we get into the boats from the water so your legs will get wet.
Footwear:
Wear running shoes/trainers for ergs. In the boats you can wear socks or go barefoot as shoes are attached to the boat.
