Some background to this event...
In 2021, Choir of the Earth was taught every note for Mahler’s 8th Symphony by John Warner in online sessions. We recorded this massive work from home - as did all the instrumentalists from John's orchestra, Orchestra for the Earth, and all soloists, with the children’s choir recorded in Mexico.
The entire symphony was put together in the studio for an online world première in January 2022, which was described by Mahler enthusiasts as, “a landmark performance”. You can watch it here:
Labrador Events now invites everyone, from any country in the world, to join us for six days of Mahler 8, culminating in a public concert conducted by John Warner with his Orchestra For The Earth, on Sunday 4 February 2024 at the most prestigious of Concert Halls in the UK: the Birmingham Symphony Hall.
The children’s choir will be boys and girls from a school in the UK and we hope to welcome back the same soloists who sang for us online.
We need the following voices:
◆ 120 Sopranos
◆ 120 Altos
◆ 30 Tenors
◆ 30 Basses
This is the plan:
◇ 30-31 January 2024 will be rehearsals for the orchestra and soloists, which you will be welcome to attend.
◇ 1-2 February 2024 will be choral rehearsals
◇ 3 February 2024 will be an all-day Dress Rehearsal in London
◇ 4 February 2024 will be a final run-through followed by a concert of the full work, performed to an audience of up to 2,000 people.
