After filling the house in Wellington, we're taking Colossal Chorale on the road to Kāpiti and Carterton for two special performances.
Join us on Sunday 6 April at 4:00pm at Te Raukura ki Kāpiti for an afternoon of powerful and uplifting choral music.
Highlights include Parry’s majestic I Was Glad, Mozart’s serene Ave Verum Corpus, and the radiant Laudate Dominum, featuring one of our talented Orpheus Scholars. Our Scholars also shine in Haydn’s joyful The Heavens Are Telling. Dramatic moments from Mozart’s Requiem add depth and intensity to the programme, including the fiery Dies Irae, stirring Confutatis, and poignant Lacrimosa.
We are proud to include New Zealand’s own A Te Tarakihi, alongside Dave Dobbyn’s much-loved anthem Welcome Home, reimagined for choir. There are also some fresh surprises in store, including folk music from South Africa, America, and Scotland.
The second half features the complete Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein, a work that blends lyrical beauty with vibrant Latin rhythms and heartfelt spirituality. From its bold opening to the tender lullaby of the second movement and the triumphant finale, this work is a rich and moving musical journey.
Brent Stewart conducts, with Stephen Clothier as Assistant Conductor and Jonathan Berkahn on piano. The concert also features acclaimed percussionist Yoshiko Tsuruta and flautist Jackson McCarthy, alongside our talented Orpheus Scholars: Sam Brown, Joseph Clinton, Francesca Fagan, Caoimhe Lane, Charle Rainey, Charlotte Secker, and Leilani Woodmore.
Tickets are available now. Do not miss this chance to experience the magic of Colossal Chorale in Kāpiti.
