COLOR

August 4 – 26, 2021

Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce a group show entitled “COLOR” featuring new works by Deborah Bell, Laura Fayer, Mitch Jones, Barbara Kronlins and Francisco Valverde.

Color: The property possessed by an object of producing different sensations on the eye as a result of the way the object reflects or emits light.

Deborah Bell feels a deep connection to her surrounding environment, from the ever- changing skies to seasonal shifts. This connection inspires her work, where layers of paint, pencil marks and found papers work together to reflect her relationship with nature and record moments in time.

Having lived in Japan as a child, Laura Fayer’s work is influenced by Japanese culture and the tradition of wabi-sabi; finding beauty in imperfection. Her work incorporates a collage of Japanese paper and many layers of acrylic paint to create abstracted scenes inspired by the natural landscape.

Mitch Jones has always had a strong interest in astronomy, astrology and mythology. In his new series of color block and collage paintings, Jones incorporates imagery of the solar system, puzzles and optics. This imagery symbolizes human’s need to take a deeper look and explore all aspects of life to help lead to discovery.

Barbara Kronlins continues to collect old paper that to most is considered no longer useful. Her materials include postcards mailed long ago, children’s coloring books, vintage matchbook covers with burnt out matches, private letters and discarded photos. She collages these papers of the past to tell a new story drawn from her own imagination.

Francisco Valverde paints with colorful synthetic materials using bottle dispensers instead of traditional paints and brushes. This choice of material and application process allows Valverde the freedom to experiment with the line; creating direction, suggestive backgrounds and mysterious forms that break away from tradition.
