Take just a minute and read some FAQs about the Colonial Heritage Festival that you might not know:
Q: Who puts this event on ?
A: The Colonial Heritage Foundation is the group that organizes the event itself. We have individual participants (our historic interpreters and re-enactors) that travel in from multiple different states, on their own dime, to GIVE their time, their knowledge and love of history and of educating the public . We also could not put this event on without the help of MANY volunteers from the community.
Q: Why don't you post more information about the WWII military history area, the Brent Ashworth Museum or the Cries of Freedom and the U.S. Naturalization Ceremony?
A: These other events are NOT part of the Colonial Heritage Festival. There are actually 4 SEPARATELY run events at Scera Park that are all part of the Freedom Festival events. Each event has different organizers responsible to provide information for their event.
Q: Why are some characters at the festival some years, but not others?
A: ALL of our festival participants are VOLUNTEERS with real lives. Family circumstances, finances, employment situations, travel costs, and many other factors play into whether or not participants are able to participate each year.
Q: Why have there not been "battles" at the festival the last few years?
A: There are a couple of answers to this one..... 1) Skirmishes do take quite a few participants. Some years we have not had enough soldiers from one side or the other, to run a "fair numbers" skirmish. Many of our military reenactors are from out of state. We can only do what we can do with who we have. :) 2) Heat plays a big factor. Wool uniforms and 100+ degree weather does not always work well together and we need to be very careful that our soldiers are not getting over -heated.
Q: If this is a FREE event, why do some items/activities cost $$ to do or keep?
A: Although this event is a FREE, family friendly event that we try very hard to provide amazing, interactive opportunities for the public to experience, keep in mind that many of the things that some of our participants show or do costs them $$. When they put $$ out for their travel to Utah, taking work days off to be at the event, pay for accomodations in Utah, etc., sometimes they do try and re-coup some of their expenses. The festival, although FREE to attend is NOT free to put on.
Q: There are donation boxes around the park for the festival. What do the donations go toward?
A: We have 200+ VOLUNTEERS each year. When they give their time and efforts to help us, the LEAST we can do is provide lunches for them. We also provide water/ice in many different areas of the park to keep our visitors hydrated. Yes, the water is FREE for the taking, but it is NOT free to the event. We do purchase a good portion of it. So, donations assist us in being able to do that for the benefit of our volunteers and visitors.
Q: Why are there not more cultures and ethnicities represented at the festival ?
A: We want the event to be as representative of the 1700s as possible. We would welcome more historical interpreters of different cultures and backgrounds to add to our event and the telling of that part of America's history. Again, we do what we can do with what and who we have that volunteer. :)
Q: Why is there not more of a selection of food being sold that is colonial era food?
A: The food trucks that we have come to our event want to attend. There are not a lot of food trucks out there that do "colonial cuisine". If you can find them let us know about them. :)

*****A final thought.... We have amazing people that provide this incredible opportunity to the people of Utah. If you were to go to places like Colonial Williamsburg for just one day, you would pay $29 for children and $49 for ages 13 and up. We have so many great things happening at the Colonial Heritage Festival that you could easily spend more than one day to see it all. Right there, isn't that worth thinking about giving DONATIONS to this event to keep it going?
This event does not take vendors. Please do not be fooled by scammers that try to sign you up as a vendor.
