About this Event
Let’s stir up some history with Diane Schwindt!
Join us on April 26 from 11 AM - 1 PM for a family-friendly event on the lawn of Trinity Episcopal Church to celebrate George Washington’s 1790 visit to Roslyn.
Come feel the heat of an open-air hearth during this historical reenactment experience as Diane Schwindt, food historian and Historic Cook at the Ketcham Inn in Center Moriches, demonstrates colonial cooking techniques. Learn about George Washington‘s breakfast in Roslyn with the Onderdonk family and sample some of his favorite breakfast items like Hoecakes, Waffles, and Dutch Aebleskivers topped with butter and syrup.
Hear about who was cooking at the dawn of the nation, see the tools-of-the-trade, and discover the history and legends attached to Washington's visit to Roslyn's grist and paper mills, all while sipping a cup of hot colonial tea!
