Dr Christine Garnaut, author of ‘Colonel Light Gardens: model garden suburb’, presents an illustrated talk that outlines the suburb’s origin, its foundation, evolution and development by the South Australian Government as a model garden suburb in the 1920s.Dr Garnaut is Adjunct Associate Research Professor in Planning and Architectural History at the University of South Australia (UniSA) and President of the International Planning History Society. Christine’s PhD investigated the planning and architectural history of Colonel Light Gardens and the life and career of its planner, Charles Reade (1880-1933). Christine lived in Colonel Light Gardens from 1980 to 2003.
