This intimate event offers a rare opportunity to explore the intersection of history, art, and domestic culture in 18th-century New England.The day begins with a tour of the exhibition “Combing History: Flax and Linen in New Hampshire” at the Woodman Museum, followed by an in-depth exploration of *Material Culture: Domestic Cloth-Making in 18th-Century New England* at the Counting House Museum. Led by curator Ruth Greene-McNally, guests will gain unique insights into the selection of objects and the intricate process of exhibition installation. A live weaving demonstration will further immerse visitors in the traditional craftsmanship of the period.
Next, guests will travel to Tare Shirt Farm in Berwick, Maine, where the Cooks will provide an insider’s look at their extensive collection of textiles, decorative arts, and period furnishings housed in their historic 18th-century farmstead. The tour includes a seasonally-themed lunch, a visit to the couple’s spinning barn, and a walking tour of the farm’s heirloom orchards and pastoral landscape.
The day concludes with a wrap-up session in the orchard, where guests can enjoy homemade desserts, beverages, and an engaging discussion with the curators. With tickets limited to 30 participants, this special event promises an enriching experience for history and art enthusiasts alike.
