A focus group for people in charities, social enterprises, and care sector exploring burnout, compassion fatigue and sustainable working
About this Event

Join us for a workshop where we will discuss why no one should go it alone, and why having a strong support network is so important, especially for those whose work is about caring for others.

The conversation around burnout is often focused on individual solutions like self-care and boundary setting. While these are important ways to prevent and deal with burnout, we cannot diminish the importance of collective care and peer support. Having a network of others around you who can provide advice, listen to your frustrations and help when you need to step away, is absolutely vital to your wellbeing. We must all take collective responsibility for one another to ensure no one falls through the cracks.

In this workshop we will discuss the importance of recognising when you need to lean on others for support, the demonstrable power of peer support and how to create systems of collective care

This will be followed by a focus group exploring burnout, compassion fatigue, and sustainable working for people in the third sector or in caring roles.

Many people in these sectors are deeply committed to supporting others. While this work is meaningful and rewarding, it can also be emotionally demanding and exhausting. High workloads, responsibility, and ongoing care for others can take a toll on well-being, particularly when there is little time or space to pause and reflect.

This focus group offers a supportive opportunity to share experiences, reflect honestly, and help shape future work focused on wellbeing, boundaries, and sustainability across the sector.

What the Focus Group Will Explore

  • Experiences of burnout and compassion fatigue
  • The emotional impact of caring roles and responsibilities
  • Balancing work, care, and personal wellbeing
  • The impact of work on home and family life
  • What support and tools are genuinely helpful

This session is open to all, especially those working in the third sector and any care professions - people who give so much of themselves to others and sometimes forget to pause and care for their own wellbeing.

Lunch and refreshments will be served from 12.30pm, providing a chance to connect and network before the session begins.

The ECHO (Empowering Communities, Helping Others) Project is proudly funded by NHS Tayside Charitable Foundation.
