The environmental impact of materials is shaped by a spectrum of actions—from the choices we make in processing and fabrication to product presentation and post-use considerations. Every stage in the material lifecycle affects environmental impact. By exploring alternative materials, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, and embracing a circular economy, we can promote environmentally conscious design and responsible material handling. This workshop invites you to think beyond traditional boundaries and established frameworks. Join us to practice collaborative methods, enhance communication, and gain insights into transitioning from handcrafts to industrial production through (interdisciplinary) teamwork.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
In a specific case focusing on material waste production resources and their utilization, we will aim to create an environment that fosters mutual learning and improves teamwork and (interdisciplinary) collaboration. After introducing the topic and conducting a communication exercise, participants will be divided into (interdisciplinary) groups. These groups will work on a practical task in which they should consider evaluating the potential and weaknesses of a selected raw material source and its application into a product. The groups will be encouraged to consider the procedures and necessary sectors required to implement the proposed application (product) until its market launch in their proposal. Supportive tools and worksheets will be available for the participants, which they may (but do not have to) follow. The participants will compile the entire proposal into a presentation and present it at the end of the workshop.
Participants will practice teamwork and communication skills in general, finding common language with people from different disciplines, working in the team, thinking outside the box and they will become familiar with a different perspective on the issue.
We invite environmental and material enthusiasts, designers, scientists, engineers, artists, and people from other fields to register for this workshop. And kindly ask each participant to bring their own laptop, an open mind, and a good mood. We look forward to seeing you!
