The theme of CW23 is Sustainable Career Development in research software: looking after your software, your career, and yourself.
About this Event

The will bring together researchers, developers, innovators, managers, funders, publishers, policy makers, leaders and educators to explore best practices and the future of research software.

The theme of CW23 is Sustainable Career Development for those in the research software community: looking after your software, your career, and yourself. The theme encompasses

  • Technical development: including software sustainability, how to decide what to learn next and where to go for intermediate software development skills.
  • Career development: including career pathways related to research software, how to get credit for your work, mentorship, and inclusive leadership to support team work.
  • Personal development: including sustaining your mental health, wellbeing and finding community.

CW will be held as a hybrid event for the first time, with the in-person element taking place in Manchester, UK. Registrants participating remotely will be sent connection details and instructions closer to the event.

CW23 will follow the unconference philosophy — where participants get to choose which proposed discussions happen, what problems they solve in the Collaborative Ideas session, and which team they want to join for the Hack Day.  In addition there will be plenary presentations, speed blogging, exploratory sessions on selected topics and a social programme to support networking and new collaborations. The CW format offers a novel way to support its themes which participants find both useful and enjoyable.

The Hack Day allows participants to realise the ideas coming from the Collaborations Workshop. Successful hack projects need not all be code — they can include any combination of software, specifications, guidance and other materials — thus enabling people from all backgrounds to participate. The Hack Day will focus on topics related to the themes of the workshop and there will be prizes for the best team efforts. Remember good hacks are cool, better ones are potentially impactful.

Visit the CW23 webpage for more information about the event.
