Imagine wondering how you are going to pay the rent when your kids need new winter boots or you have to travel to a funeral.Every day, North Okanagan residents face these tough decisions because a financial emergency has put a strain on cash flow and they are unable to pay the rent.
But you can help your neighbours by taking part in CMHA Vernon's Coldest Night of the Year Feb. 28, 2026.
Register now at https://en.cnoy.org/location/vernon for the walk in support of the North Okanagan Rent Bank.
The event starts and finishes at the Vernon Elks Lodge, and along with the two- or five-kilometre walk, there will be a shared meal and lots of fun.
The North Okanagan Rent Bank provides short-term, no interest loans to individuals and families who are unable to pay their rent because of a financial emergency. The goal is to reduce their risk of being homeless. The communities benefitting from the rent bank include Vernon, Coldstream, Armstrong, Spallumcheen, Lumby, Cherryville, Enderby and Grindrod.
And don’t forget, when you get a head start and raise $150 or more ($75 if you’re under 18), you’ll receive a limited edition 2026 CNOY toque.
I look forward to seeing you at Coldest Night of the Year.
