This December the historic Wireless Hill Museum will open its doors to a truly unique exhibition – Cold War to Dance Floor.

For the very first time in Western Australia an amazing array of synthesised sound and communications technologies will be brought together to create Cold War to Dance Floor an interactive exhibition tracing the link between post war tech and the pop music explosion of the ‘70s and ‘80s.

Curated by audio visual artists Will Axten and Gaetan Schurrer a double platinum award-winning artist who has worked with Jeff Wayne (War of the Worlds) as well as Trevor Horn and M People the Signal Sounds Lab is teaming up with the City of Melville to fire up the old Engine Room of WA’s most significant wireless station - to play host to the ‘engine room’ of the dance floor.

The stand-outs of the exhibition will be the synths and drum machines that exploded on to the scene in the ‘70s and ‘80s and propelled dancers across the world to stay up all night alongside their electronic ancestors born in the ‘40s ‘50s and ‘60s in laboratories across the USA Japan and Europe.

Curator Will Axten said the exhibition was an homage to the tech heroes of the dance floor age with the exhibition exploring their emergence from their laboratories and their transformation of the sound of music.

Cold War to Dance Floor officially opens on Friday 9 December from 6.00pm with live electronic performance from Felicity Groom & Bree Medbury with DJ Paul Malone and lab soundscapes from Solar Cell Kid.

Following the opening the exhibition will be open at Wireless Hill Museum from Wednesday to Sunday 10.00am to 4.00pm until Saturday 18 February 2023.
