Sous le nom de Cold Gawd, l’artiste californien Matt Wainwright crée un shoegaze orageux et vulnérable, mêlant accords ouverts et mélodies inspirées du R&B. Avec une approche moderne et affinée, Cold Gawd explore le lien entre les thématiques du shoegaze et du R&B – l’amour, le désir et la mélancolie, dans toute leur grandeur et leurs nuances mineures.
Après l’album « God Get Me The Fuck Out Of Here » (2022), marqué par une écriture oscillant entre désespoir et résignation, Cold Gawd revient en 2024 avec « I’ll Drown On This Earth » sur Dais Records. Ce deuxième opus dévoile une intensité brute et des mélodies captivantes, dès le cri rageur qui ouvre « Gorgeous ». Conçu en 2022 mais enregistré en mars 2024, cet album incarne une énergie sans compromis, entre lourdeur magnétique et brume éthérée.

Cold Gawd is the flag under which California-based multi-instrumentalist Matt Wainwright creates stormy, wounded shoegaze music born of open tunings and R&B melodies. Inspired by these sounds, Cold Gawd presents a refined, modernized take on the genre.
Wainwright cites the thematic common ground between shoegaze and R&B as a central muse, both obsessively fixated on love, lust, and longing, in forms alternately grandiose and minor key.Lyrically, 2022’s album “God Get Me The Fuck Out Of Here” sways between oblique and desperate, yearning and resigned – with the exception of “Comfort Thug,” a brooding, largely improvised spoken word piece inspired by the notable lack of black musicians in shoegaze.

Soft Blue Shimmer, trio originaire de la vallée de San Fernando, transforme émotions, rêves et souvenirs en paysages sonores brumeux. Meredith Ramond, Kenzo Cardenas et Charlie Crowley tissent une musique à la fois éthérée et frénétique, où résonnent des mélodies vaporeuses et des textes d’une sincérité désarmante.
Après l’EP « Nothing Happens Here » (2019) et l’album « Heaven Inches Away » (2020), le groupe a atteint une nouvelle maturité avec « Love Lives in the Body » (2022), sorti sur Other People Records. Enregistré et produit par Corey Coffman, cet opus capture des émotions complexes, enveloppées d’une nostalgie cinématographique. Leur musique, tour à tour rugueuse et douce, déferle comme une vague avant de s’effacer, laissant derrière elle une réflexion teintée d’espoir. It’s rare a band name directly encapsulates its sound, but Soft Blue Shimmer couldn’t be more fitting for the trio out of Los Angeles. On their newest album Love Lives in the Body, released in November 2022 on Other People Records, the group’s floaty and hazy instrumentation glistens alongside emotionally-charged lyrics.
First formed in 2018, the band released their debut EP, Nothing Happens Here in 2019, followed by the moodier full-length, Heaven Inches Away in 2020. Love Lives in the Body serves as not only a natural growth from their past material, but also an outlet for lyricist Charlie Crowley to be their most vulnerable yet.
