About this Event

Saxophonist Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band/Bela Fleck & the Flecktones) leads a powerhouse group with some of the globe’s finest improvisors including drummer Jordan Perlson, bassist Viktor Krauss, keyboardist Jon Cowherd and trumpeter Rod McGaha.
JEFF COFFIN:
Jeff Coffin is a globally recognized saxophonist, composer, educator, and is a member of the legendary U.S. rock group, Dave Matthews Band. You may also know him from his 14 years, and 3 Grammy Awards, with the genre-defying Bela Fleck & the Flecktones. Jeff fronts numerous groups when not touring with DMB and has released 20+ solo recordings on Ear Up Records. Coffin is known for his musical passion, his deep commitment to music education, and his continued dedication to improvisational music. Jeff is also a Yamaha Performing Artist & Clinician, a Boston Sax Shop Ambassador, teaches improvisation at the prestigious Vanderbilt University, co-founder of AfricaNashville, authored numerous music books, authored a children’s book, produces, engineers, mixes, draws, and runs his own critically acclaimed record label, Ear Up Records.
JORDAN PERLSON:
Drummer Jordan Perlson is one of the most dynamic and catalytic musicians you will hear. Transplanted from NYC to Nashville, Tennessee in 2016, Jordan remains an integral part of a wide international music scene. From cutting edge music innovators like Becca Stevens, Snarky Puppy, Banda Magda, to progressive musicians Adrian Belew, Echolyn, Kaki King, fusion megastar Hiromi, jazz legends Seamus Blake, Gary Burton, David Liebman, folk heroes Alison Brown, Missy Raines, reggae giants Matisyahu, or Trevor Hall, Jordan has become a well known and sought after force in these many musical circles.
VIKTOR KRAUSS:
Eclectic composer/bassist Viktor Krauss has been a presence in Nashville Tennessee since 1992 with over 500 album credits as either a bassist, composer/songwriter, or producer. On tour, Viktor has been heard and seen with Lyle Lovett's Large Band since 1994. Starting with 1996's "Nashville", Krauss began a long tenure with Jazz great Bill Frisell. Other albums with Frisell include "Gone, Just Like a Train", "Good Dog, Happy Man", "East/West" and "Disfarmer." Other artists over Krauss’ career have included James Taylor, Tom Jones, Shawn Colvin, Sheryl Crow, Carly Simon and Jerry Douglas. In 2006, Viktor was awarded a fellowship for the prestigious Film Composers' Lab at the Sundance Institute and his film composing credits include music for directors Ken Burns and the late Robert Altman. In 2022, Viktor joined Robert Plant and Alison Krauss as a multi-instrumentalist (electric guitar, piano) on the “Raise the Roof” tour.
JON COWHERD:
The Kentucky-raised, New Orleans-schooled, New York-based revered keyboardist Jon Cowherd is best known for his long- running partnership with drummer/bandleader Brian Blade, with whom he co-founded the Grammy nominated Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band, whose acclaimed, influential albums showcase Cowherd's stellar keyboard work and singular compositional skills. When not recording and touring with the Fellowship, Cowherd has worked extensively with a broad array of players and singers from the jazz, pop and rock worlds including Joni Mitchell, Norah Jones, Brandi Carlile, Nate Smith & Kinfolk, Bill Frisell, John Patitucci, KD Lang, Rosanne Cash, Iggy Pop, Glen Hansard, Cassandra Wilson, John Scofield and Lizz Wright.
ROD MCGAHA
Critically acclaimed trumpeter, composer, vocalist, artist, producer and winner of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award for Outstanding Jazz Trumpeter, Rod McGaha has joined the ranks of some of the most respected and promising up and coming jazz players today. Whether you first heard Rod McGaha as the opening act for Take 6 or as one of the featured jazz soloists with Max Roach's critically-acclaimed group, or maybe even as a featured soloist playing in front of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, one of your first thoughts had to be, “This guy makes playing great look really easy.” A native born Chicagoan, Rod McGaha first showed up on Chicago's jazz scene as a young prodigy. Rod is quick to admit that he was blessed to have garnered the attention of legends like Von Freeman and Clark Terry at a young age, but it is probably most telling that although he received an invite from none other than Wynton Marsalis himself, to come to New York to audition for a spot as one of the newest young lions in Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. Rod has played concerts in Egypt, Japan, Germany, South Africa, Poland and Mexico. He has played in bands for Kenny Rogers, Bebe and CeCe Winans and was even the music the director for the now alternative rock sensation Shelby Lynne. One could just list the stages on which he's played (Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Chicago's legendary Jazz Showcase, to name just a few) and come to the conclusion that his has been a complete musical life.
