A taster course in both blacksmithing and coppersmithing.
About this Event

During this 1 day course you will get a taste of both blacksmithing and coppersmithing! Learn how to dish flat copper into a 3-dimensional scoop, and shape steel to make a handle of your own design. Some of the skills you will learn are:


  • How to heat up copper and use a torch safely
  • How copper behaves under the hammer
  • How steel moves under the hammer
  • How to heat up steel using a coke fuelled forge
  • How to manage a forge fire
  • Which hammers, stakes and dies to use to form a small dish
  • Specialty tools at the forge to achieve the shapes in your design
  • How to work at an anvil
  • How to attach steel and copper


This is one day course. Class runs from 9am-5pm.


All materials, safety equipment, coffee and tea will be provided. Lunch is available in town / an indoor lunch area with a microwave and fridge is provided on site if you bring your own food. Please wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
