Looking for a wee creative pick-me-up? Fancy a couple of hours just for you, doing something fun and low-pressure in good company?Then our Sketchbook Club + Coffee Afternoons might be just the thing.
We’re opening up the Design Suite at Adam Smith Theatre on the first Friday of every month for a relaxed, friendly and informal creative drop-in. Come along anytime between 2:30pm and 4:30pm, grab a cuppa, and take some time for yourself to sketch, doodle, chat, or simply enjoy the calm, inspiring atmosphere of the space.
Whether you’re a seasoned sketcher or someone who hasn’t picked up a pencil in years, you’re absolutely welcome here. You don’t need to be an “artist” – just bring along a sketchbook, a notebook, a bit of creative curiosity, or something you’ve been meaning to work on. There’s no agenda, no pressure and no expectation. Just good vibes and space to chill out.
So what happens at a Sketchbook Club + Coffee Afternoon?
Imagine a big table scattered with materials, a kettle bubbling away in the corner, and a quiet buzz of friendly conversation. Some people will be sketching. Some will be exploring ideas or experimenting. Others might be trying out something new on one of our iPads or even having a go with the laser cutter.
You’re welcome to bring your own materials, or just turn up and see what’s on hand. We’ll have tea, coffee and biscuits available – plus our creative kit will be out too, so if you fancy dabbling in something digital, now’s your chance.
You could:
Try out Procreate on one of our iPads (we’ve got styluses ready to go)
Explore a new idea in VR using our headset
Make something using the 3D printer, Cricut, or laser cutter
Sit with a cuppa and see what everyone else is working on
Or just draw whatever you feel like in your sketchbook, in peace
It’s all about creating an inviting space to relax and recharge – no pressure, just a lovely excuse to be a bit creative, meet like-minded folk, and maybe leave with a fresh spark of inspiration.

Anyone who’s looking for a creative moment in their day. You might be:
A professional artist or maker
A student working on a project
A parent with a couple of hours to yourself
Someone who’s always wanted to try drawing but didn’t know where to start
Or someone who just fancies a peaceful place to hang out for a bit
We’ve designed this to be a welcoming space for all. You don’t need to book, you don’t need to bring loads of stuff, and you don’t even need to be confident in your creativity. Just come as you are.
