Celebrate the opening day of our 27th year with a free day of classes in Dance, Percussion, and Afro-Puerto Rican Martial Arts!
Everyone is welcome from any culture or background!
Cocobale/Kokobale (Danza de Guerra) is a rare Afro-Puerto Rican Martial Arts using sticks and machetes from our Bomba ancestral traditions. Created by enslaved Afro-Ricans before the 19th century, the fighting technique is accompanied by Bomba music and dance.
Other traditions taught include Calinda, Juego de Mani and Cocolembe at various levels.
Two distinct programs teach Cocobale, one for Bomba performance and another for the non-performance enjoyment of sparring.
