Maybe you buy a bottle to make a specific drink but do not know other ways to use it, or maybe you were tempted by the exotic flavor of a new ingredient, but once you acquired it, you are stumped how to use it in a cocktail. It is precisely to address this issue of liquors languishing in your cabinet that we have concocted this series of cocktail classes - Ingredient Inspiration! In each class, we will explore a different ingredient, focusing especially on those that are most famous for a single cocktail, and show you how they can be used in a broad range of libations.
Explore a commonly purchased but much less commonly used ingredient - Creme de Menthe! Noted for its place in dessert drinks like the Grasshopper, or the mid-century classic the Stinger, Creme de Menthe is a difficult bottle to put to a wider range of uses. One problem is that cheap versions often taste like toothpaste. Another is that, unless mixed judiciously, the intense minty flavor can overwhelm and clash with subtler spirits. In this class, we will test just how flexible a good bottle of Creme de Menthe can be.
