Join us for a Community Meeting to discuss flooding challenges and learn about available flood resilience resources in the Chesapeake community. As sea levels rise and severe weather intensifies, our cherished coastal regions face an increasing threat from flooding—putting at risk not only our economic stability but also our cultural heritage and vital environmental resources. Addressing these urgent challenges requires the collaboration of a diverse group of community members and stakeholders.
Virginia’s Coastal Resilience Master Plan helps to address these challenges. Phase II of the plan is currently in development. Once complete in December 2024, it will provide data, tools, and information to help Virginia's governments make more informed decisions for flood resilience.
By attending this meeting, you will:
- Learn about the Virginia Coastal Resilience Master Plan, Phase II and other government efforts to understand the ways that flooding is changing in your community.
- Learn about ongoing activities to address flood risks in your community.
- Share your lived experiences with flooding, and hear about those of your neighbors.
- Get first-hand info about tools and resources to increase your flood resilience.
The meeting will include a brief presentation by DCR on the Coastal Resilience Master Plan, Phase II, followed by open time for attendees to visit table “stations” hosted by DCR and other organizations.
You can learn more about the Coastal Resilience Master Plan, Phase II online at: https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/crmp/plan-phase2
