You will be shown the block printing process, using a selection of coastal-themed blocks to print on fabric bags. The participants will get to experiment with layering patterns and printing in repeat, using the prepared blocks with coloured inks, also try carving their own motifs ready to print.All you need to bring is an apron or wear old clothes.
No previous skills required.
Tickets £20 plus £5 cash to bring on the day for materials.
Artist bio:
Lydia is a printmaker, painter and surface pattern designer, who grew-up in Hartland, where her love of nature and wildlife began. She works from her studio, Candyland Studios near Torrington, where she draws inspiration from the stunning North Devon coastline and Flora and Fauna in the surrounding landscape, from which she creates her artworks.
Using traditional and modern techniques, Lydia designs colourful wallpapers and printed textiles, in contrast to her landscape works and block prints. More recently, Lino, Wood and Rubber block printing, have taken precedence in the studio with recent commissions leading the direction.
Lydia’s love of pattern was sparked whilst studying Textiles and Surface Pattern at Bretton Hall, university of Leeds, after which the obsession to create nature inspired pattern took hold. The Hedgerow features heavily in her work and is a constant source of inspiration and interest when creating her prints. Lydia likes to capture the magic of nature in the landscape, hinting at folklore- connecting the myths and legends of the past to the present day.
