Coastal Cleanup- Love our environment September 13th from 10:00am-1:00pm
Each year, Renton Sailing Center participates in the International Coastal Cleanup, "Fighting For Trash Free Seas", as a way of giving back to Gene Coulon Park and the environment where we enjoy sailing together.
We would again like to invite our members to be a part of this important event on September 13th from 10:00am-1:00pm. Participants will be asked to gather refuse along the shoreline of Lake Washington and record the data which will then be submitted and utilized for environmental research. Please meet near the RSC dock at 10:00 for sign-in, safety briefing, and orientation.
Renton Parks Department provides trash pickers, buckets, and safety vests, and we will have data cards and clipboards ready to go.
Participants are highly encouraged to bring the following:
1. Work or garden gloves.
2. Comfortable footwear (for walking along shoreline)
3. Signed waiver/s (required, see attached, if you forget we will have a few)
4. Reusable water bottle
5. Sunscreen and/or rain gear
6. Lunch after the event (optional)
Youth are encouraged to participate along with a parent or guardian. All participants are required to sign an RSC Waiver. Please print, sign, and bring waivers (attached) for you and/or your whole party. Family and friends are encouraged to lend a hand.
RSC members and/or students can earn volunteer hours for participating.
It looks like there may also be open sailing after the event, if participants are interested, please sign up with the dock master of the day.
Every year we learn a lot about our waste, collect a significant amount of trash, including some really surprising items, and always leave with a feeling that we've made a positive impact through service to our community.
