We have listened to your feedback and are making our Coalitions more interactive and informative. In addition to our usual meeting schedule, we have planned a special presentation delivered by Dr. Ana Krahmer from the University of North Texas. Her presentation is titled “Fine-Tuning Your Newspaper Research Strategies on The Portal to Texas History.”
Location: Collin County Commissioners Chambers, 4th Floor
Presentation Summary: Hosted by The University of North Texas Libraries through The Portal to Texas History, the Texas Digital Newspaper Program provides free and open access to newspapers from across Texas, spanning 1813 to the present, and encompasses nearly 2,000 titles in 13 languages. This represents a significant amount of newspaper history, and this presentation will offer tips and tricks for exploring such a vast collection. Ana Krahmer, the Director of the Digital Newspaper Program, will discuss librarian secrets for finding that one mystery relative who disappeared across the state line, and she will offer a hands-on demonstration to researchers needing to fine-tune their expertise in working with newspapers on the Portal.
Biography: Dr. Ana Krahmer oversees the Texas Digital Newspaper Program, an open-access repository of digital newspapers, comprising nearly 12 million pages. In her work, Krahmer builds partnerships with groups across Texas to help them digitally preserve and make their newspaper collections accessible. Dr. Krahmer helps collaborating partners obtain grant funding and then manages their digital newspaper projects to completion, at which stage newspapers are freely available for full-text research and sharing across communities.
