Varied habitats including the River Alde, mudflats, marsh, freshwater dykes, woodland (including veteran oaks) and dry heath. We park at Snape Maltings, home of the Aldeburgh Music Festival.Most popular is to cross the River Alde to Snape Marshes and you can continue on to Snape Warren and towards Aldeburgh, all on the north bank. An alternative is to explore the south bank of the River Alde towards Iken.
Marsh Harrier, Hobby, Otter, Kingfisher, Dartford Warblers, Woodlark. Many waders at low tide.
Coach fare £30 (adults). Please book and pay through Malcolm (contact details available on request - or see our pinned post) preferably by 21 May although we will probably be able to accept later bookings.
The coach departs Hitchin: 7.15am. Letchworth: 7.30am. Royston: 7.50am.
No admission charge for the reserve
Facilities: Toilets, cafe, shops, galleries at Snape Maltings. No hides but lots of viewpoints.
Boat trip possible depending on the tide – to book yourself.
Distances and accessibility: Snape Marshes: level stone-surfaced path around perimeter of reserve. Dry year round. No gates or stiles. Some other paths can be muddy.
Snape Warren: generally sandy and free-draining.
