The Anglian Water Birdwatching Centre is the gateway to the Egleton Nature Reserve, part of the internationally important Rutland Water Nature Reserve. It has a network of lagoons and wetlands, joined by meadows, hedgerows and woodlands.
There is an astonishing number of hides providing good views and shelter.
The reserve is good for waders, the more unusual grebes and divers plus various ducks and geese. Scaup, Smew and Short-Eared Owl possible. 25,000 ducks, geese and swans in the winter!
Coach fare £30 (adults). Please book and pay through Malcolm (contact details available on request) preferably by 1 November although we may be able to accept later bookings.
The coach departs Stevenage: 7.45am. Hitchin: 8.00am. Letchworth: 8.15am. Baldock and Biggleswade on request.
Admission charge: £5.50 per person at the Group rate.
Facilities: over 20 hides, Visitor Centre with panoramic views, toilets, refreshments, shop, picnic area.
Distances and accessibility: With so many hides, you don’t have to walk far, north or south, but there’s the option to get away from the crowds at the further hides.
Many of the hides and trails are wheelchair friendly, and there is an electric buggy available for hire – please phone ahead to book.
