This one-day class focuses on the practical application of your optic and pistol. It covers distance, movement, multiple targets, and more (regardless of your job).TOPICS COVERED
We are long past optics being novel. This session addresses their application with likely challenges. Topics include:
Verification of zero;
Working from the ready and the holster
Movement before and after shooting;
Shifting visual attention;
Multiple target engagements and moving targets (if the range supports it);
Broken & blocked optics;
Engagement at distance;
Judgment and decision-making will also be addressed.
EXPECTATIONS AND OUTCOMES
By sessions’ end, you'll have experienced and gained comfort with using the optic from near-contact to the range’s allowable distance, with movement, and engaging multiple targets from both the ready and your holster.
ABILITY REQUIREMENTS
Experience with your pistol-mounted optic, including acquiring the dot under time constraints, and accuracy sufficient to shoot Dyal’s 5 Yard Round-Up clean with a 3 second par time for each stage. Additionally, the completion of a defensive handgun class that includes holster work/reloads/stoppages as well as an understanding of applying the 4 Safety Rules practically while working around your firearm while not hazarding your neighbor.
EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
Note-taking material;
Eye and ear protection;
A pistol with an optic (loaners MAY be available with enough notice) and three magazines;
Appropriate holster and mag pouches;
Appropriate belt;
Extra battery and tool to change it;
Adjustment tool for the optic;
Please bring your lunch, Scooby snacks, caffeine, and—of course—water. We will break, but the less time we devote to lunch, the more time we can spend on your dot;
Appropriate range attire for the weather conditions;
Ammunition: 250 rounds of reliable pistol ammunition
Course cost is $250 plus a $30 facility fee that is due at signin.
About Erick Gelhaus:

After lengthy careers in the military and law enforcement, Erick's grad school coursework focused on communicating about use-of-force issues. He is a well-published author, with articles appearing in numerous print magazines and several online publications.
Gelhaus has taught the defensive use of firearms and tactics in the private sector – for Gunsite, Aimpoint, and others – to vetted citizens, peace officers, and service members since for more than 20 years.
