Hello all, I’m writing to all of you to tell you about our second Club Tournament that will be taking place in the DoJang on February 1st 2025. Many of you will not have attended a championship before and maybe not even aware that our association organises them. I hope this will clarify what it is and spark interest in taking part.Firstly I want to start by saying that Tang Soo Do is not focussed around completion and we generally only have a few tournaments a year, if you like this tournament, there will be a large tournament in Cardiff in May. These events are completely by choice and not essential to your training. Some students might be apprehensive that it will be too much for them. I have videos of previous tournaments and will hopefully give you an idea of what it’s like and the atmosphere as well. It’s a great way to see how big our Association is in the UK and see the best practitioners compete.
As you can see that all belts and ages can enter (Even Tiny Tigers & ASD students). The categories are separated by age and belt, so you will only be in the ring with students of your ability. Tiny Tigers & ASD students perform a routine (kicks, punches they know) and belt tag ( a game we regularly play in class) White to Orange tag Belts can compete in forms and free sparring and Green Belts and above can also compete in weapons.
Entry forms are now available for students to complete and then hand in by January 13th to enter. There is a cost to entering . We will start organising what we call “Squad Sessions” in the new year within the timetable for students to be prepared as possible. Tiny Tigers need no extra equipment (only full Do Bohk). All other students will need full sparring gear (head, hands, foot, mouth guard and males need groin guard).
I would love as many students to enter as possible, for many reasons, but the main two are it would be great for everyone to support our first ever tournament that we will be running completely independently . The other reason is that I have personally found the tournaments a great opportunity to develop as a Martial Artists, and as this one is on our doorstep I encourage (especially new students) to at least try one tournament to find out if they enjoy it or not as when they are held in other parts of the country they can be more expensive and stressful because of travelling and hotels etc.
Any questions please feel free to ask. We will email out tournament forms soon.
