Colin Benders is a restless creative force, composing as fast as he imagines. Over the past seven years, he has mastered the modular synth, an instrument that channels his instinctive approach to music-making. From lush harmonic pieces to sprawling techno improvisations, Benders creates purely in the moment, free from the rigid cycles of recording and performance.
Before discovering modular synthesis, Benders had already redefined live performance with The Kyteman Orchestra, an acclaimed project that fused orchestral scope with raw spontaneity. Seeking greater immediacy, he turned to modular synths, diving into a medium where sound could flow directly from emotion to machine.
Improvising through live streams and performances at festivals like Awakenings, Dekmantel, Le Guess Who?, ADE, and Berghain, Benders crafts each set as a one-off experience. His modular rig is both his laboratory and playground, a space where he continually explores, builds, and releases sound in real time.
