October 13th, 10.00-1.30 in the beautiful space above waterloo park cafe.To book: www.eventbrite.com/e/clown-church-october-tickets-1008302418677
Spend Sunday morning exploring how you like to play. Is it on your own or with others? Copying or doing the opposite? With audience attention or in your own space?
We will use movement, games, colouring pencils, and a variety of hats to ease into clowning around. And hopefully have a lot of fun too!
The group size will be limited to ten to ensure a comfortable space. Everyone is welcome, no previous experience required.
About Iona May-Zing & Clowning Around:
Clowning can be many different things, but these clowning workshops are about relaxing into who we are and playing with what we find there. We will play in the place between reality and imagination, in sharing our human-ness and in recognising the human-ness in others.
I have been learning about clowning for the past 11 years and I love the way clowning can give us the chance to share the beautiful pickles we can get ourselves into, and out of! For me, clowning workshops don’t have to be about working towards a finished product to share in a formal circus or theatre setting (although they can be); clowning is more like a practice in playfulness, in a similar way that going to the gym is a practice in fitness.
I am also a poet and my debut collection, ‘Breaking Down Loudly’, uses some of my experiences in clowning to talk about grief and also about friendship. I really like to perform my poems and clowning definitely comes into my poetry performances. I have experimented with performing parts of my collection as a one-woman show, including a show about talking to my clothes at The Garage’s ‘Scratch Night’, and I am still trying to work out whether I love doing this… or not!
I have also spent a lot of my life teaching Religious Studies at a primary school and my favourite part about that is telling stories. I also love the sea, adventures with my tent and day-to-day chats with friends.
