This Eco themed show will also feature a clothing swap and other cool eco-themed DIY activities. Yay Area Love Cats, Circus of Sin, The SJ Kimono Club + The Art Boutiki Music Hall invite one and all to come together for an all ages community Eco Hootenanny + Sustainable Clothing Swap celebrating our Bootyful Planet for Earth Week!
Bring high-quality clothing that you’re no longer vibing with! Whether it’s the neon pants you wore at that rave clown theme party or the fab hat that’s just a tad too small for your brainiac noggin, bring it down. Clothing, costumes, belts, sunglasses, hats, bags— let them find new love. You’re not just clearing out your closet; you’re treasure hunting in someone else’s!
While finding your new fit, we’ve got a whole lineup of entertainment for your crew. Poetry, Drag Performances, Live Music, Eco Arts + Crafts, and inspirational teach-ins throughout the night all MC’d by local legendary poet and comedian Mighty Mike Mc Gee!
Local Mavericks, The Circus of Sin, will dazzle all with a lineup of Eco-themed Drag performances! Hello Captain Planet!
The San Jose Kimono Club will show us all how to rock vintage Kimono in sustainably modern ways that keep the beautiful garment alive and well for all to wear!
A curated lineup of local poets and singer/songwriters will open our hearts and minds, led by acclaimed local poet Jose Jimenez.
Local Artist Kat Bell, who hosts a weekly maker meetup, will have a corner where you can join her in making eco crafts! She will show you a bit of sustainable sorcery with recycled paper clay that will inspire you to look at your recycling bin with a different eye! (What can we make?)
Teach-ins will inform, enlighten and inspire.
Local Environmental Lawyer turned Cooperative Enthusiast Paola Eisner will speak on her experiences with corporate and governmental greenwashing and how communities can thrive together while “starving the beast.”
Amazing local metal sculpting artist Cjay Roughgarden will speak on her experiences personally helping the Shawi in the Amazon Rainforest and the troubles they face as climate change directly affects their way of life while they and other indigenous groups are our best recourse for sustainably managing biodiverse lands.
We’ll be featuring an eclectic mix of live music sets: Josh Crespin with positive lyrics and acoustic strummings, piano interludes by utopian songstress Containher will keep us elevated and intentional throughout, and an electrifying set by Kid Lords will send us home on a high note!
Dress Inspiration: Eco Gilded, Refashioned, Vintage, Solar Punk. Prizes for the best-dressed attendees, as judged by our very own panel of fashion-forward experts from the Kimono Club, Circus of Sin, and Kid Lords. So, don your most fabulous eco-friendly ensemble for a chance to win!
This is more than an event; it's a local movement. Together, let’s make a statement, make some swaps, and make some noise. After all, the “Bootyful Planet SJ Eco Hootenanny” isn’t just a party; it’s a declaration of love—for our planet, our community, and our closets. Let’s get together and make it a live vibe to remember!
