About this Event
About the workshop series
Clothes Tell Stories is a creative writing and drawing workshop series that explores how we engage with our everyday attire. Renfrewshire has a rich textile history with locals sharing an embodied knowledge and lived experience through family histories within the textile industry. This project embraces this embodied knowledge through creative writing practice alongside drawing and making.
You will interact with clothing across a wide spectrum from the everyday practice of getting dressed to creative world-building through historical garments. Short writing exercises will be paired alongside ‘slow looking’ drawing sessions where participants ‘meet’ garments. Alongside this, specialised workshops including a dressed life drawing class, a weaving workshop, embroidery mending, a historical object handling and group zine-making session.
The project will culminate with a group zine featuring work created during the workshops. Through this project, you will build connections with like-minded individuals, learn new skills and engage deeper with how you dress your body.
Writers of all identities, abilities, and backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to attend.
