Talk from Ramsey Kunkel at 5 PMCome by Sparrow this Friday to view Ramsey’s portraits of Alberta icons and personalities, including TV personality, Ron “Buckshot” Barge, and actress, Jessica Matten! Join us at 5 PM to chat with Ramsey and learn more about the people he has captured through the lens of his camera.
The Alberta Portrait Project’s is a unique opportunity to glimpse into the spirits and minds of people who have sculpted Alberta’s cultural landscape. Ramsey Kunkel is a master at harnessing photography to share untold stories - or reconsider ones we think we know.
“Of living in Alberta, someone recently said to me, ‘ …it’s comfortable,’ which seemed to really fit, as it's a reflection of my life as well.” - Ramsey Kunkel
For those who have long since called Alberta home, Ramsey’s work will rewind the decades and have you feeling nostalgic for Benny the Bear and Stampede Wrestling. But whether you were born in Alberta or just stepped off the plane for your first visit, The Alberta Portrait Project is a collection of icons and personalities like you’ve never seen them or never seen at all. Here’s your chance to spend some time with them while sitting with Ramsey’s sensitive approach to letting people in through the lens of his camera.
Ramsey Kunkel is Métis and was born and raised in Alberta. He specializes in portrait photography, and has taken photos for local, national, and international clients. Although Ramsey's art is varied, much of his work is centered around his Indigenous culture - alive, colourful, and full of movement. Ramsey has a love of nature, people, and family, and hopes a sense of caring will come through his work.
Wait! There’s more happening during the closing event!
Sit down with a stranger for 2 minutes to be a part of a portrait photography project by artist, Jenny Tzanakos. Jenny will be at Sparrow throughout the day and invites participants to let their guard down and sit quietly with a stranger. Sound too scary? Stop by Sparrow to chat with Jenny and learn more about the project.
