After captivating visitors to Benicia City Park for seven months, the Allegory Art Boats participated in the Annual Torchlight Parade, winning the Third Place Award.Both Art Boats tell unique stories about our town. One represents a Viking dragon ship such as those that are thought to have traveled our waters. The other, a giant monarch butterfly boat, represents the phenomenon of migration through Benicia by these magical creatures.
The Art Boats will culminate their journey in a grand exhibit at the Library, featuring books and drawings inspired by Benicia’s history on the water.
In addition, local historian and author Alan Gandy will discuss both Vikings and the monarch butterfly, and how they serve as Allegories for Benicia’s maritime history.
