Talking Horse is announcing auditions for our first musical of 2026, "Closer Than Ever" written by Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire. Directed by Jennifer Black Cone. ABOUT THE SHOW:
A musical revue in two acts without dialogue, Closer Than Ever features self-contained songs that deal with such diverse topics as security, aging, mid-life crises, second marriages, working couples, and unrequited love. Each song is a unique story told by a new character, taking audiences, not only into the songbook of Mr. Maltby and Mr. Shire, but into the minds of the individuals facing these completely relatable challenges.
ROLES:
This is a true ensemble show and actors will play multiple roles. Those auditioning are encouraged to listen to the soundtrack to determine what roles they may be interested in.
As written, the script calls for
2 - 4 female-identifying actors
2 - 4 male-identifying actors
All genders will be considered
AUDITIONS:
Auditions will be held at LOVE COFFEE at 15 Business Loop 70 E, Columbia, MO 65203. Everyone auditioning is asked to prepare a portion of a song that demonstrates their vocal range and power. Accompanist will be provided.
SCHEDULE:
Rehearsals begin the week following auditions. Schedule TBD depending on cast.
Performances begin May 14 - 17, 21 - 24.
