Closer Each Day is one of the leading improvised theatre companies in the country. Our Improvised Soap Opera has run continually for over 12 years and is the longest running improvised story in the world. Over the years our unique show has allowed us to develop a unique set of improvising and storytelling tools that can transform your approach to improvisation.
These one day courses will cover a variety of topics and are aimed at all levels of experience.
The courses are:
1. 23rd September 2023
AN EMOTIONAL APPROACH TO IMPROVISATION aka Don’t Think it, Feel It!
This course explores how we can create scenes and rich stories simply through our emotions without having to come up with “the great idea”. We teach techniques which will allow you to be free to perform and avoid getting in stuck your head. This course has been described as “fun and stimulating” and “nurturing and supportive but also challenging and inspiring.” It is suitable for all levels.
2. 7th October 2023
AN IMPROV TOOLBOX FOR ACTORS
This provides actors and performers with a “Swiss Army Knife” of improvising tools they can apply with confidence in rehearsals, auditions or whenever someone says “hey, let’s put the script down”. It covers basics, fill gaps and includes tips and tricks to deal with tricky situations. It is suitable for actors and performers of all levels whether professional or amateur.
3. 3rd December 2023
IMPROVISING CONFLICT AND ARGUMENTS
An argument is one of the easiest things to improvise. It’s also one of the hardest things to improvise well. Generally the advice is to avoid it but what happens if your story really needs some conflict, or your scene partner won’t play ball? In this course we look at the tools to make arguments exciting and watchable, as well as how to resolve them! This course is suitable to all improvisers who are happy with the basics.
