Were you a part of the incredible tree planting effort in June? We need your help again!! 70+ people showed up to plant over 2000 seedlings but without ongoing people power the little ones simply won’t survive.This SUNDAY, any time from 8am-11am, meet your fellow Friends of Clontarf Hill to spend an hour (or less!) attacking the nefarious FUMITORY… which happens to be a lot of fun to rip out! Without people power this nasty introduced species will strangle our seedlings come Spring… and we really want to avoid resorting to Glyphosate if we can (and I’m sure we all agree). FoCH regular Ted reckons that ten people can rid it in an hour, so if we get 20 we can help control an even larger section or make the work quicker. Or with more we could even get onto mulching! Managing our local bushland is definitely an ongoing process and we're so grateful to all who can lend a hand even if briefly.
We’ll have encouraging stickers for little ones to make it a family friendly day and will also be documenting the regrowth atop the hill following the recent rains, come with us to see how it’s recovering!
Please BYO gloves and hand shovel/weeding tool/Hori Hori to make this light work, and wheelbarrows/rakes never go astray on these days too. We will have plenty of big bags to fill with the wicked weeds.
