Welcome to the first event in our Spring 2025 Spotlight Faculty Speaker Series! The field of genetics has rapidly developed since the discovery of the structure of DNA over 70 years ago. This led to significant gains in genetic knowledge and the development of genetic tools which have produced everything from genetically modified organisms (GMOs) to novel therapeutics.
In this talk, Dr. Denise Ludvik will review central genetic concepts and the function of modern genetic tools, like CRISPR. Then we will discuss the ethics of the use of these tools because as a scientist, one should not only think about whether they can do something, but also if they should.
