Training Description
Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs) affect millions of people worldwide. As many as 2 in 50 people engage in body focused behaviors such hair pulling, skin picking, and nail biting resulting in hair loss, scaring, infections, and sometimes abdominal or plastic surgery. This training will provide an overview of Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors. It will include current research, state of the art treatment approaches for these disorders, including assessing and improving motivation, and using advanced techniques for treatment.

Learning Objectives
After attending this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the etiology, prevalence, and conceptualization of BFRBs.
- Conceptulaize these disorders using a function based comprehensive approach.
- Apply knowledge gathered from the functional analysis to prescribe useful and effective interventions that are tailored to the individual.

About the Presenters
Ms. Ruth Golomb is a senior clinician and supervisor at BTC where she has worked since the mid 1980’s. Ms. Golomb specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders in children and adults. She is a frequent speaker at national conferences covering many topics including , Sensory Regulation and Anxiety, (OCD), BFRBs and managing anxiety disorders in the classroom. In addition having articles published in journals and newsletters, Ms. Golomb is an author of multiple books, most recently, Overcoming Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors, and Comprehensive Behavior (ComB) Treatment for BFRBs. She is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the TLC Foundation for BFRBs .

This course is provided free to current Catholic Charities of Baltimore employees and for a fee to non-employees. Registration and additional information, including cost is available via Eventbrite. Registration closes at 11:59 pm on March 31, 2025 or when space is full, whichever comes first. Refunds may be requested via the Eventbrite platform until March 31, 2025 at 11:59 pm; after that date no refund will be given.
