Climate FORTH - Contractor Environmental Skills - Rannoch Park, Grangemouth

TCV in partnership with Climate FORTH are delivering a series of 8 on site environmental skills sessions to build skills, confidence and experience in habitat management techniques that deliver climate adaptation and mitigation.

This workshop series is aimed at contractors, land managers and people looking to move in to the environmental sector.

All events in this series are standalone events covering different topics/areas, you do not need to have attended previous events and you are welcome to attend multiple.

Our second session will be held at Rannoch Park, Grangemouth hosted by the Green Action Trust.

In this session we will discuss:

  • The design and development of the Rannoch Park project in Grangemouth
  • Process for delivery of climate adaptation and environmental projects
  • Considerations when delivering environmental projects in urban areas and on sites with heritage assets.
  • What are the skills needed to deliver this work in the future

An introduction to Rannoch Park

Rannoch Park is a large, open park with sports pitches and play facilities located to the south of the Bowhouse area of Grangemouth. The site was identified for greenspace improvement works focused on reducing the impacts of heavy rainfall and supporting climate adaptation and resilience.

Following a development phase and consultation, work on the park began in early December 2024. Works include:

  • Creating new shallow detention basins and a swale to help store and manage excess surface water whilst creating habitat for wildlife
  • Planting new areas of tree, woodland, shrub and grass to intercept rainfall, lock in water and reduce surface water flooding
  • New trees and areas of woodland will also provide shelter and shade, intercept noise and particle pollution, boost biodiversity, and provide habitat and forage for wildlife
  • Two new paths across the site
  • Spring bulb planting
  • A new picnic area with benches and the reorientation of the eastern football pitch

Further information including detailed maps of the interventions can be found at Rannoch Park - Green Action Trust
