A professional development programme for community workers looking to embed conversations about climate action into existing delivery
About this Event

Climate Crumbs is a 3 hour, in-person professional development programme for community practitioners to learn how to integrate conversations about climate action into existing delivery.

This session is particularly for community workers in Central Glasgow. We will be offering sessions in West, South, East and North Glasgow in the near future.

We focus on projects and groups which deliver growing and/or cooking activities. We’ve designed the programme so that you can tap into the actions people are already doing, reframing them as positive for the climate e.g. using lentils as a cheaper alternative to meat is also far less carbon intensive.

At the end of the session, you will:

  1. have a greater understanding of how both cooking and growing food are positive climate actions
  2. have more confidence in bringing in climate activities and discussion topics to your group
  3. take away a resource and activity pack to use with your groups and,
  4. receive a digital sticker you can use on your website and social media to show you have completed the training

Underpinning Beliefs

1. Growing food is a climate action

  • Reduces food miles and emissions
  • Agroecology increases biodiversity and environmental repair
  • Places less emphasis on industrially farmed foods and monocultures

2. Cooking food is a climate action

  • Reduces processing energies
  • Allows for seasonal foods
  • Reduces food waste

Testimonials

Inverclyde Community Food Network, previous attendees, have said:

We attended a fantastic workshop yesterday given byGlasgow Community Food Network on growing and cooking as positive climate actions and how we can initiate discussions and activities about climate in our own gardening and cooking sessions. Really informative and useful and reinforced how important our community gardens are.

We find that this training works best with a group size of 10 but we are flexible with numbers.

Accessibilty

The Meeting Room Woodlands Community Development Trust at is fully wheelchair accessible. The path from the main entrance on Ashley St has three steps, but there is a side entrance (gate) via the lane that is ramped and fully accessible. If you require disabled access, we recommend getting in touch with us in advance so that we can make sure that the side entrance is open. The inside of the building is all on one level and has a wheelchair accessible toilet but not a Changing Places Toilet.

The venue does not have a hearing loop.

The meeting room is just one room so there is no dedicated quiet space. The adjacent garden areas and the community garden do have some quiet seating spaces albeit they are outdoors.
