About this Event
✨ Welcome to our Climate Café on maritime decarbonization!
From ship design and port operations to offshore energy and ocean services, the marine industry plays a critical role in global trade — and in global environmental impact. As maritime systems grow larger, faster, and more technologically complex, a key question remains:
How can the marine industry actively reduce its environmental footprint while continuing to enable global connectivity?
This Climate Café panel explores sustainability in the marine industry from a systemic perspective, bringing together insights from naval architecture, marine engineering, operations, policy, and digital innovation. From fuel choices and vessel design to logistics, monitoring systems, and behavioral change at sea and onshore, the panel looks at how sustainability can be embedded across the entire maritime value chain.
Sustainability in the marine industry doesn’t happen only through cleaner fuels or new regulations. It also happens in design decisions, operational processes, data systems, and everyday practices — from route planning and maintenance to port infrastructure and crew behavior. This panel frames sustainability as a shared responsibility across technology, operations, and governance.
Why attend?
✅ Understand how maritime design and operational decisions influence environmental impact
✅ Learn how innovation — digital and physical — can support decarbonization, biodiversity protection, and efficiency
✅ Join a critical discussion on the future role of the marine industry in a sustainable global economy
What you'll learn:
✨ How vessel design, materials, and lifecycle thinking affect emissions and ocean health
✨ The role of digital systems (monitoring, optimization, data transparency) in sustainable maritime operations
✨ Trade-offs and ethical questions around efficiency, regulation, and economic pressure
✨ Where meaningful sustainability change in the marine industry really starts — in technology, operations, or systems
