About this Event

Many of us have climate change on our minds, but feel as if nothing good can come from focusing on it directly. What if there was a way to be heard, and to find connection around these issues?

This event offers a thoughtful but flexible structure in which participants can share personal responses to ecological concerns. Capped at 12 participants, it provides space to find relief, belonging, and inspiration. In this context, we are able to hold together what is too much to carry alone.

The focus here is on reflecting, not planning. Still, Climate Cafés are grounded in the understanding that conversations like these are crucial to supporting our shared capacity to attenuate the ecological crisis, and to respond creatively and collectively to its challenges.

The facilitators, Libby Bachhuber (she/her) and Sara Dittoe Barrett (she/her), are psychotherapists who care deeply about these issues. They offer these Cafés as a form of support and solidarity, as we all learn to work together toward a better future. This is not psychotherapy; it’s a form of community gathering -- one that recognizes the unique experiences of each participant and helps you find points of contact.

This event is being hosted at no cost, but we ask participants to make a pay-what-you-like donation when signing up. All donation proceeds will benefit the Southeast Environmental Task Force, who organize for environmental justice in the Calumet Region, an area that historically has been disproportionately impacted by polluting industries and also holds huge potential for greener, healthier futures.

Skunk Cabbage Books is a COVID conscious space and requires masks for all our visitors. We have masks available and use HEPA air purifiers to improve indoor air quality. The shop’s aisles meet ADA accessibility requirements and we do not have any stairs. We have a restroom available to event participants, but we regret that it is not accessible. There is street parking available along Milwaukee Ave., but the shop does not have dedicated parking. Please contact us at [email protected] or (872) 206-8039 if there is anything we can do to make this event more accessible to you.
