Artist will present in-progress work titled 7 Rugs.
Mariah is obsessed with rag rugs. She is currently working on the fourth of a series of seven rugs…but are they rugs? And what is a rug anyway? This series is the beginning of a larger body of work that seeks to expand the definition of rag rugs as utilitarian objects and explore their potential for posing questions and making statements. She will present these rugs and her ongoing effort to situate them within a conceptual framework that uses the many meanings of “pattern” to connect her background in architecture to these handworked textiles.
