About this Event
Clergy and school governance
Clergy including Curates will often find themselves in a parish context where there is more than one Church school and ‘other’ non-church schools where demands may be made, or involvement may be sought/intended. For many, this will mean serving as an ex-officio Foundation Governor of one or more Church schools.
The new requirement of Church School Section 48 Inspections (SIAMS) for a ‘Christian vision with theological rootedness’ may place the ex-officio governor in being expected to provide more input into an understanding of both biblical and Church teaching on specific concepts than previously.
Governance Development for Clergy - three sessions are being offered over a three to four week period. Each session will have a Moodle Learning page to provide additional optional reading/resources. Attendance at all three is recommended .
Suitable for Clergy new to parish ministry (i.e. Curates or Priests new to a church/school relationship) and for more experienced clergy.
Session One -Governance as ministry for clergy.
Exploring the possibilities of the ex-officio governor pastorally, practically engaging, providing a genuine (growing ) partnership, and a prophetic voice.
Session Two -Theology and vision – a role for clergy.
Exploring what a theologically rooted Christian vision is and how to assist the governance board in developing their thinking and understanding. The aim is to equip governors and the school in developing the schools’ vision and the conversations during a SIAMS.
Session Three- Options for clergy governance engagement.
Facing the time challenge and commitment, some practical ideas for considering how to manage the opportunity and expectations, or where necessary to have an alternative provision. Also, about a range of responsibilities including the recruitment of Foundation Governors
