Internationally respected, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance (CPRD), cuts the leading edge of Americas modern dance companies with their transcending style. Founded in 1974 by Cleo Parker Robinson, CPRD continues to build upon its dance school and ensemble origins. CPRD is one of the four superbly trained programs alongside the CPRD Academy, Theatre, and Education. To keep the repertoire fresh, Robinson regularly brings in new and emerging choreographers that can perform frequently on tours. The CPRD fuses African American culture with ethnic and modern dance to pay tribute to leaders in dance innovation including Katherine Dunhams sharp 1938-piece Barrelhouse Blues and Donald McKayles Uprooted: Pero Replantado, a too-timely meditation on the plight of immigrants. Cleo Parker Robinson marked the beginning of a long-lasting collaboration and friendship with Maya Angelou on their first production together The Lush Life in 1982.
