The first Whooping Crane of the season has arrived near Big Tree!Whooping Cranes are the tallest birds in North America, and one of rarest and endangered. One of the best spots to see this amazing bird is right here in Lamar, across from the Big Tree.
Join us as we prepare for their return! Walk along 12th Street and Lamar Beach Road to pick up trash that would otherwise end up in their feeding grounds.
NOTE: There are NO restroom facilities at Big Tree.
When: 11am-12pm
Where: Meet at the Big Tree parking lot on 12th Street in Lamar (north Rockport)
Bring: hydration, sun protection, bug spray, pants, and close-toed shoes.
We will provide: Vests, gloves, and Up2U Litter Bags. Some grabbers available on a first come first serve basis.
Cost: FREE
Age group: This program is best for those aged 8 years and older.
Accessibility: This event starts at a parking lot with accessible parking. There is no sidewalk along 12th Street or Lamar Beach Rd. - Children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program.
- Large groups please contact Sara Rock for a private event.
- Program may be canceled if no participants are present within 10 minutes of the start time, or in the case of inclement weather.
